Pakistan People's Party (PPP) organized a Quran Khawani and candlelight vigil in Johar Town, Lahore, on December 16, 2025, to commemorate the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) Peshawar tragedy.
The event was arranged by senior PPP leader Faisal Mir. Following Fatiha for the martyred students and teachers of the APS tragedy, candles were lit.
Addressing the gathering after the ceremony at the PPP's Johar Town office, Faisal Mir stated, "The crime of the People's Party is that it does not incite anyone in the name of religion. Incidents like APS will continue to occur until politics in the name of religion ends." He emphasized that such tragedies will persist as long as votes are sought in the name of religion and Islam. He appealed, "For God's sake, focus politics on public issues rather than religion."
Mir further said that there is a need to reflect on the factors behind the December 16 tragedy. He criticized former President Zia-ul-Haq for using religion as a political weapon. Mir argued that where reason should prevail, weapons took over, leading to an increase in terrorism and extremism in the country. He stated that the generation trained by Zia in the name of jihad ended up doing politics in the name of religion, and even today, innocent youth in our madrassas are trained by luring them with promises of paradise.
PPP leader Majid Ghori, who was also present, claimed that India is orchestrating terrorism in Pakistan. He demanded that Field Marshal Asim Munir (referring to the Chief of Army Staff) should instruct the education department to observe this day as a black day in all educational institutions today. He further alleged that India is now making films against the Pakistan People's Party and spreading poisonous propaganda.
The event was attended by Majid Ghori, Shahbaz Durrani, Haji Rifaqat, Tariq Chaudhry, and a large number of party workers.
At the end of the ceremony, Majid Ghori led a prayer for the martyrs of the APS tragedy.
