MUMBAI/GOA, October 8, 2026 (Nazrana Times | Entertainment Desk): Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated performers, passed away in Goa early Thursday morning at the age of 75, bringing an end to an extraordinary acting career spanning nearly five decades.
According to hospital officials, the acclaimed actor was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula, near Panaji, and was rushed to Manipal Hospital. Despite efforts by medical professionals to revive him, he was pronounced dead. Doctors indicated that he had suffered a cardiac arrest, although the underlying cause remains to be established.
A Remarkable Journey in Indian Cinema
Born Vishwanath Patekar in Maharashtra in 1951, Nana Patekar began his artistic journey in Marathi theatre before establishing himself as a formidable presence in Hindi and Marathi films.
He made his film debut with Gaman in 1978 and subsequently gained widespread recognition for his exceptional acting abilities, distinctive voice and powerful dialogue delivery.
His performance in Parinda (1989) earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor, while Krantiveer (1994) brought him the National Film Award for Best Actor.
He received his third National Film Award for Agni Sakshi (1996), further cementing his reputation as one of India’s finest actors.
Among his most memorable films were Tirangaa, Prahaar, Khamoshi: The Musical, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Raajneeti and Welcome. His performance as Uday Shetty in Welcome demonstrated his remarkable versatility in comedy.
He also earned considerable acclaim for his performance in the Marathi film Natsamrat.
National Recognition and Humanitarian Contributions
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema, Nana Patekar received three National Film Awards and several other prestigious honours.
The Government of India conferred upon him the Padma Shri in 2013.
Beyond cinema, Patekar was widely respected for his humanitarian initiatives, particularly his work supporting farmers affected by drought and agricultural hardship.
In 2015, he co-founded the Naam Foundation with fellow actor Makarand Anaspure to assist struggling farming communities and promote rural welfare.

Maharashtra Announces State Funeral
The Maharashtra government has announced that Nana Patekar will be accorded a state funeral in Pune in recognition of his exceptional contribution to Indian cinema and Marathi theatre.
His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the actor’s death and indicated that the funeral would take place in Pune.
