The recent tragic killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, Punjab, has deeply shocked and saddened the people of Punjab. According to news reports, he was shot during a confrontation with a medical shop owner over allegations of illegal drug sales. This incident raises serious concerns about the growing drug problem and the safety of those who speak out against it.
In my opinion, responsibility should not stop with the person accused of committing this crime. The Punjab government, police and administration must also be held accountable for their efforts to prevent illegal drug trafficking and protect the public.
However, I believe that we, as members of society, also share some responsibility. Too often, we remain silent when we suspect that drugs are being sold in our neighbourhoods and communities. We cannot afford to ignore this serious problem any longer.
Drug addiction is destroying families, putting our children at risk and threatening the future of Punjab's younger generation. We must become more aware, responsible and united in addressing this crisis.
With the Punjab Assembly elections approaching in 2027, I want to remind the Punjab government that the people deserve answers, accountability and meaningful action—not just political promises.
I also appeal to every Sikh and every Punjabi, regardless of their background, to stand together against the drug menace. We must raise awareness, support those struggling with addiction and encourage the authorities to take firm and lawful action against those involved in illegal drug trafficking.
We cannot remain silent while our younger generation suffers.
It is time to take responsibility, protect our children and work together for a safer and healthier Punjab.
Save our children. Save our families. Save our younger generation. Save Punjab.
