The ongoing dispute between the Singh Sahiban of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Takht Sri Harmandar Ji Patna Sahib has now been fully resolved in the larger interest of the Khalsa Panth, Panthic unity, and the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat across the world.
Today, a meeting of the Five Singh Sahiban was held under the leadership of Officiating Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. During this meeting, matters concerning Takht Sri Harmandar Ji Patna Sahib were discussed and resolved with mutual understanding and cooperation.
The gathering was attended by Giani Kuldip Singh
Gargajj, along with the three Granthis of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib—Giani Rajdeep Singh, Giani Sultan Singh, and Giani Kewal Singh—as well as Bhai Tek Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jathedar Gargajj shared that on May 12, 2025, the Takht Sri Patna Sahib Management Committee had sent a letter requesting reconsideration of the decisions taken earlier by Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding Takht Sri Patna Sahib, in view of the greater interests of the Khalsa Panth and the spirit of unity. In the letter, the Takht Sri Patna Sahib Management Committee expressed full submission to the supreme authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and pledged continued allegiance in the future.
To deliberate on the contents of the letter, a meeting of the Five Singh Sahiban was convened today. In this, earlier resolutions passed during meetings of Five Singh Sahiban at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on May 21 and July 5, 2025, were reconsidered in light of Panthic unity, the broader interests of the Khalsa Panth, and the sentiments of the global Sikh community. Necessary amendments were made accordingly.
Jathedar Gargajj stated that simultaneously, the Panj Piaras Singh Sahiban of Takht Sri Patna Sahib also convened a meeting and accepted the supreme authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib today. They decided to withdraw the resolutions they had passed on May 21 and July 5, 2025 at Takht Sri Patna Sahib. A formal resolution in this regard was also received today at the Secretariat.
Jathedar Gargajj added that the present moment calls for Sikh unity, and it is heartening that the recent discord between the two Takhts has now been completely resolved through mutual cooperation and in the spirit of Panthic unity. He further shared that he will soon visit Takht Sri Patna Sahib and pay obeisance in reverence at the birthplace of Sri Guru Gobind Singh.
In today’s meeting, the Five Singh Sahiban passed a resolution reaffirming that among the five Takhts of the Sikhs, Sri Akal Takht Sahib—established by the Sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib —is the supreme Takht, while Takht Sri Harmandar Sahib, the birthplace of the Tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh, is also a highly revered Takht. A letter from the President, S. Jagjot Singh, and General Secretary, S. Inderjeet Singh, of the Takht Sri Patna Sahib Management Committee was received, wherein they acknowledged the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and requested reconsideration of previous decisions. Accepting their request, and keeping in view the larger interests of the Khalsa Panth, Panthic unity, the sentiments of the global Sikh Sangat, and mutual respect between the two Takhts: The resolution number 03 passed on May 21, 2025, that had placed a restriction on the Panthic services of Bhai Baldev Singh (Head Granthi Jathedar of Takht Sri Patna Sahib) and Bhai Gurdial Singh (Additional Head Granthi), is now completely nullified. In relation to resolution number 04 from the same meeting, Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar is instructed to withdraw the court case he had filed against the Management Committee of Takht Sri Patna Sahib, in the interest of respect for the Takht, Panthic unity, and the honour of the Jathedar’s post. The Management Committee of Takht Sri Patna Sahib is directed to meet with Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar and clear any outstanding service-related payments according to established norms. All individuals involved, including Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar, are instructed not to issue any statements in the media or on social media regarding this matter.
Furthermore, the resolution number 01 passed on July 5, 2025, is also being withdrawn in light of the apology and request submitted by the Takht Sri Patna Sahib Management Committee, their acceptance of Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s supremacy, and with a focus on unity among the Takhts, the larger interests of the Khalsa Panth, and the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat.
