Miss Universe Pakistan candidate champions national identity in emotional pageant message

BANGKOK, (Nazrana Times) Ali Imran Chattha

Pakistan’s representative at the Miss Universe pageant,Roma Riaz, delivered an emotionally charged message from Thailand on Friday, draping herself in the national flag and framing her participation as a tribute to her homeland's culture, faith, and diversity.

In a video posted to her official Instagram account,Riaz thanked the Pakistani public for their support and detailed how she intentionally used her wardrobe to represent different facets of the nation.
“I carried Pakistan in every look,” Riaz stated, addressing her audience directly.
Her sartorial choices were presented as a curated narrative of national identity. She said her burkini represented the country's majority Muslim faith, her national costume was designed to celebrate the craftsmanship of Lahore's historic Sheesh Mahal, and her evening gown paid tribute to Pakistan's Christian and other minority communities.
The model also directly confronted previous colourist criticism she had faced, using the platform to reframe it as a point of pride. “My skin is the colour of Pakistan’s soil,” she declared proudly.
Riaz concluded her message by expressing gratitude to her fans worldwide for supporting her journey “with love and courage.”
The Miss Universe organization has, in recent years, emphasized national costume and personal statements as key elements of the competition, allowing candidates to showcase their heritage on a global stage.
