Call for strengthening Sikh institutions with Panthic spirit

Sri Amritsar, August 18 Jugraj Singh Sandhu

The three-year-long dispute between Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib Management Committee and former Jathedar Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar has been amicably resolved yesterday, in light of the directives issued by the Five Singh Sahibaan of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on July 14, 2025. The matter was settled through dialogue and with the spirit of Panthic unity.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s Acting Jathedar, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gardgaj, congratulated the Panj Pyare of Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib, the Management Committee, and former Jathedar Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar for respecting the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, complying with its directives, and displaying mutual understanding and unity. He emphasized that, given the challenges faced by the Sikh community, the current time calls for consolidating Sikh strength and strengthening Sikh institutions in the spirit of Panthic solidarity. He further noted that all five Takhts of the Khalsa Panth stand united and in coordination on Panthic matters.

Sharing details, S. Jagjot Singh, President of Takht Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib Management Committee, stated that in 2022, the then-president S. Avtar Singh Hit had suspended the services of Jathedar Ranjit Singh Gauhar for certain reasons, after which he filed a legal case against the Committee.

He added that the Five Singh Sahibaan, including Giani Kuldeep Singh Gardgaj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, directed Jathedar Ranjit Singh Gauhar to withdraw all court cases, while instructing the Management Committee to clear his pending dues.

According to S. Jagjot Singh, following efforts made by SGPC members S. Gurinder Singh Bawa and S. Jasbir Singh Dham from Mumbai, Maharashtra, both sides reached a consensus. Subsequently, the Management Committee cleared the outstanding dues of former Jathedar Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar, after which the Panj Pyare of Takht Sahib honored him with a Siropa (robe of honor) and bade him a respectful farewell.

He concluded by stating that with this settlement, the dispute ongoing for the last three years has been completely resolved. S. Jagjot Singh expressed special gratitude to Giani Kuldeep Singh Gardgaj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, for his role in resolving the matter.
