LAHORE, June 22: In a remarkable gesture to promote peace, mutual respect, religious tolerance, and interfaith harmony during the sacred month of Muharram-ul-Haram, Nolakha Presbyterian Church Lahore, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Majid Abel, organized a "Muharram Solidarity Breakfast."
The event was attended by Archbishop Dr. Azad Marshall, Chairman of the kul Masalik Board Maulana Asim Makhdoom, Father James Channan, Mufti Ashiq Hussain, Pastor Khokhar, Emmanuel Pervaiz Bhatti, Mufti Intikhab Noori, Dr. Badr Munir, Sajid Christopher, Allama Asghar Chishti, Professor Suhail Ahmed, and a large number of members of the Shia community along with people from various schools of thought.
Addressing the gathering, Reverend Dr. Majid Abel said that Muharram teaches the values of patience, sacrifice, compassion, and humanity. He stated that people from different faiths coming together to promote peace and brotherhood reflects the collective desire of Pakistanis to live in mutual respect and harmony. He added that maintaining peace during Muharram is a shared national responsibility, and such initiatives further strengthen national unity.
Archbishop Dr. Azad Marshall and Father James Channan emphasized that interfaith dialogue and joint community events help promote trust, mutual respect, and love among followers of different religions. They said that initiatives such as the Muharram Solidarity Breakfast play a vital role in fostering tolerance and social cohesion.
Maulana Asim Makhdoom and Mufti Ashiq Hussain said that the great sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) conveys a timeless message of truth, justice, steadfastness, and sacrifice for all humanity. They urged followers of all schools of thought to promote unity, tolerance, and brotherhood during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Professor Suhail Ahmed highlighted the important role of religious scholars, faith leaders, and social organizations in strengthening religious harmony across Pakistan.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers for peace, stability, interfaith harmony, and the maintenance of an atmosphere of unity and brotherhood throughout Muharram-ul-Haram.
