State Mourning in Qatar After Death of Former Emir
Qatar has entered a four-day period of national mourning following the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the country’s former Emir and father of the current ruler, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Sheikh Hamad, who ruled from 1995 to 2013, is widely credited with transforming Qatar into one of the world’s wealthiest and most influential nations through its natural gas industry, global investments, and diplomatic initiatives.
As part of the mourning period, flags are flying at half-mast, government offices have suspended operations, and official events have been postponed. India has also announced a one-day state mourning today as a mark of respect for the late leader and in recognition of the close bilateral ties between India and Qatar. 
Sikh Summit 2026 Begins Today
The Sikh Summit & AHAA 2026, organized by UNITED SIKHS, begins today and will continue until 17 July in a hybrid format, bringing together participants from across the world.
The summit aims to develop the next generation of Sikh leaders through discussions on public policy, humanitarian service, advocacy, leadership, and community engagement. Participants will interact with policymakers, legal experts, activists, and community leaders while exploring ways to strengthen Sikh representation and service globally.
