ISLAMABAD (Nazrana Times): Pakistan’s tyre industry is targeting exports of $150 million in FY2026–27, compared with $116 million in FY2025–26 and $35 million in FY2021–22. The Commerce Ministry has assured manufacturers of support in addressing market access barriers and expanding overseas sales.
Turkish Market Access Discussed
At a recent meeting chaired by Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, participants discussed market access concerns affecting Pakistani tyre exports to Türkiye.
Officials said certain tyre categories already receive concessions under the bilateral Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA). Exporters were asked to submit specific product details and Harmonised System (HS) codes so the ministry could raise outstanding issues with Turkish authorities.
Industry Targets Approximately 29% Growth
The FY2026–27 export target represents an increase of approximately 29% over the preceding financial year, reflecting tyre manufacturing’s growing contribution to Pakistan’s industrial exports.
Manufacturers say a substantial proportion of their products are exported to markets they describe as tier-one destinations, including the United States and Brazil.
Tyre exports were also discussed at a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Commerce, where a ministry official said the government was providing all possible facilitation to the sector.
Service Long March Targets $100 Million
Service Long March (SLM), which began commercial production in 2022, recorded exports of $67 million in FY2025–26, accounting for approximately 58% of the industry’s total overseas earnings.
The company is targeting exports of $100 million in FY2026–27, an increase of approximately 49% over the previous year. If achieved, this would represent around two-thirds of the industry’s projected $150 million in exports.
A senior industry official confirmed the company’s export plans, highlighting its growing contribution to the sector’s overseas sales.
September Exports Rise Approximately 38%
SLM recorded exports of $9.5 million in September 2026, compared with $6.9 million in September 2025, an increase of approximately 38%.
The company accounted for around 63% of the tyre sector’s reported exports of $15.1 million during September 2026.
Technology Partnerships Support Product Expansion
Chinese technology and manufacturing partnerships have helped strengthen local production capabilities, enabling manufacturers to serve international customers and develop additional product categories.
In the passenger-car radial (PCR) tyre segment, Armstrong began export sales in August 2026 and is supplying markets including the United States.
SLM plans to begin PCR exports in 2028, which would broaden the range of products it sells overseas.
Achieving the FY2026–27 target would strengthen the tyre industry’s contribution to foreign exchange earnings, industrial activity and the diversification of Pakistan’s export base.
