International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) President Dominique Pradalié has congratulated the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on its Platinum Jubilee, calling the union’s recent achievements a historic milestone for press freedom in Pakistan. She commended PFUJ President Rana Azeem, Secretary General Shakeel Ahmad, and their colleagues for their determination and efforts, which led to the Senate’s approval of amendments to the Journalists Protection Act. Dominique Pradalié revealed that she personally came to Pakistan to join this struggle and express solidarity with the country’s journalist community. Representing an organization of 600,000 member journalists worldwide, the IFJ President said she welcomed the amendments and believed that PFUJ’s success would inspire journalists across the globe. She stressed that legal and institutional reforms for the protection of journalists and freedom of the press were the need of the hour, and PFUJ was setting a strong example in this regard. Pradalié further noted that the IFJ was founded in France in 1926 and would be celebrating its centenary next year. She expressed hope that PFUJ’s achievements would continue to play a vital role in promoting press freedom and safeguarding journalists’ rights in the future. ---
