The University of Lahore (UOL) has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Pakistani university to secure a place among the world's top 100 institutions in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026.
According to the official rankings released on Wednesday, UOL secured the 71st position globally while ranking first in Pakistan. It is also the only university from the country to feature in the global top 300, underscoring a significant lead over other national institutions in sustainability performance.
The THE Sustainability Impact Ratings assess universities based on their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across four key areas: teaching, research, stewardship, and community engagement.
UOL demonstrated exceptional performance across multiple SDGs. The university ranked 9th globally for SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and 16th for SDG 4 (Quality Education). It also secured the 18th spot for SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 21st for SDG 13 (Climate Action), 32nd for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), 37th for SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and 76th for SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
The institution described the achievement as Pakistan's highest-ever position in the globally recognized rankings. University officials emphasized that the recognition validates UOL's vision of higher education not merely as the pursuit of academic knowledge, but as a driving force for solving real-world challenges and improving lives.
The milestone is expected to significantly strengthen Pakistan's presence in the international higher education landscape, highlighting the growing contribution of the country's universities to global sustainable development.
