SGPC Chief Takes Strong Notice of Demolition of Part of Historic Gurdwara in Farooqabad, Pakistan
Amritsar, July 1 Sarbjit Kaur
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has taken strong notice of the reported demolition of a portion of a historic gurdwara in Farooqabad, Sheikhupura district, Pakistan, allegedly by individuals attempting to seize the property. He urged the Government of Pakistan to ensure the protection and preservation of Sikh heritage sites.
Advocate Dhami said that Pakistan is home to numerous historic gurdwaras and Sikh heritage sites, and safeguarding these religious and historical places is the responsibility of the Pakistani government. According to the information received, some individuals in Mandi Sakrana, Farooqabad, allegedly demolished part of the gurdwara building in an attempt to illegally occupy its property.
He stated that the gurdwara dates back to the Singh Sabha movement and holds great historical and religious significance for the Sikh community. Such heritage sites should be protected and preserved by the local administration and government rather than being damaged or destroyed, leading to the loss of invaluable Sikh history.
Advocate Dhami appealed to the Government of Pakistan and the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) to conduct an immediate, impartial investigation into the incident, take strict legal action against those responsible, and ensure the restoration and preservation of the gurdwara while maintaining its historical identity.
He further said that the gurdwaras and Sikh heritage sites associated with the Sikh Gurus in Pakistan are places of immense faith and reverence for Sikhs across the world. He called for effective security measures to protect these sacred sites and prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
