Punjab Launches ‘Young Greeners’ Campaign to Plant 5,000 Trees in Lahore

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), and the youth welfare organization Barghad, in collaboration with Fast Cables, have officially launched the "Young Greeners Plantation Campaign." Under this campaign, a target has been set to plant 5,000 indigenous trees in two public parks of Lahore, which will be a significant step towards making the city greener and environmentally sustainable.
In this regard, the inaugural ceremony held at a park in Lahore witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 100 young people, volunteers, and community members. On this occasion, Barghad Executive Director Sabeeha Shaheen, PHA Director General Mansoor Ahmed, Fast Cables CEO Kamal Mehmood Amjad, and EPA Inspector Muhammad Waqar were also present. They planted various saplings and offered special prayers for the success of the campaign.
The ceremony was also attended by prominent individuals from various walks of life, including Muhammad Hammad ur Rehman, representative of the Volunteers in Service Department from the University of Central Punjab; Advocate Zeeshan Zafar; and Assistant Director Hussain Hashimi from the Department of Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Mal, Council on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Additionally, members of various youth networks such as NYVN, BVN, the Youth Volunteer Organization, and the Environmental Healthcare Organization also participated actively.
To promote environmental awareness, religious and social leaders including Allama Asghar Chishti and Allama Salman Shakir, along with young environmental activists and climate leaders Abdul Wahab, Sehar Sohail, Aliza Aziz, Muzammal Majeed, Osama Nasir, and Rabia Dar, also joined the campaign. The presence of emerging chess champion Ayat Asmi further highlighted the youthful and inclusive spirit of the initiative.
This campaign reflects a community-level commitment to environmental protection and the promotion of tree plantation, a message encapsulated in the beautiful slogan: "Jithe Hariali, Othe Khushhali" (Where there is greenery, there is prosperity), which underscores the deep connection between a green environment and public well-being. The participants reaffirmed their resolve to continue playing their respective roles in making this campaign a success.
