PAKISTAN-Jhelum DC removed after request to shift exam centre over chief minister’s visit
LAHORE/JHELUM (Nazrana Times): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif removed Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Mir Reza Ozgen from his post with immediate effect on Sunday after his office requested the relocation of an examination centre because of an anticipated VVIP visit.
The chief minister said the request disregarded her explicit instructions that her district visits must not cause inconvenience or disruption to the public.
Request concerned November 10 examination
The controversy arose from a letter dated November 6, sent by the deputy commissioner’s office to the chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rawalpindi.
The letter requested that the Intermediate Second Annual Examination 2026 Computer Science paper, scheduled for November 10 at Government Comprehensive School, Jhelum, be moved to another centre.
It cited an anticipated VVIP visit and expected traffic congestion, acknowledging that the situation could inconvenience students and parents.
Chief minister cites disregard of instructions
Maryam Nawaz said the incident had occurred despite clear directions that no public inconvenience should result from her visits. Describing it as a disregard of those instructions, she ordered the deputy commissioner’s immediate removal.
Officer directed to report to S&GAD
Following the chief minister’s order, the Services and General Administration Department issued a notification directing Ozgen to report to the department for further orders.
The information provided did not clarify whether the examination board had approved the request to relocate the centre.
