Maryam Nawaz Launches Mobile Health Program for 4.6 Million Industrial Workers and Families in Punjab
Punjab government aims to expand healthcare services to 12 additional districts by March 2027
LAHORE, October 12, 2026 (Nazrana Times): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the Social Security Mobile Health Program, an initiative aimed at providing accessible medical services to more than 4.6 million industrial workers and their family members in Lahore, Kasur and Sheikhupura.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the program will provide healthcare facilities to registered workers at their workplaces, while their families will be able to access medical services near their homes.
The initiative seeks to improve healthcare accessibility for the working population, promote early diagnosis of diseases and ensure timely medical treatment.
Program to Expand to 12 More Districts
The Punjab government plans to extend the Social Security Mobile Health Program to 12 additional districts and cities by March 2027.
The proposed expansion will cover Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Rawalpindi.
The government says the expansion will help bring essential healthcare services closer to industrial workers and their dependents across the province.
Chief Minister Inspects Mobile Hospitals and Medical Units
During the inauguration ceremony, Maryam Nawaz Sharif inspected the Social Security Mobile Hospital, Mobile Dental Hospital and Mobile Health Bikes introduced under the initiative.
She received a briefing on the medicines, medical equipment and facilities available through the mobile healthcare units. The Chief Minister also checked her temperature using a medical device during the inspection.
Punjab Minister for Labour Manshaullah Butt and Secretary Danish Afzal briefed her on the program’s implementation and operational arrangements.
Maryam Nawaz also interacted with doctors and healthcare professionals assigned to the mobile medical units.
According to local media reports, the initiative includes 65 mobile healthcare units, comprising different types of medical vehicles and mobile health bikes designed to serve workers and their families.
Visit to Social Security Hospital and Cardiac Centre
Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister visited the Outpatient Department (OPD) of Nawaz Sharif Social Security Hospital and the Rehmatul-Lil-Alameen Cardiac Center.
She met patients receiving treatment, inquired about their health conditions and wished them a speedy recovery.
During her visit to the cardiology ward, she also appreciated the dedication of a patient’s daughter who was caring for her mother.
Healthcare Network Serving Industrial Workers
Speaking at the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that Punjab’s 24 Social Security hospitals were providing medical treatment and medicines to more than 10 million industrial workers and their family members.
She further stated that the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) would facilitate healthcare services through 250 medical outlets across the province.
These figures were presented by the Chief Minister as part of the government’s assessment of its existing social security healthcare network.
Medical Services at Workplaces and Near Homes
The Chief Minister said the Mobile Health Program was designed to deliver medical services directly to industrial workers at factories, commercial centres and other workplaces.
She explained that workers would be able to receive medical attention without travelling long distances to hospitals, while their family members would benefit from healthcare facilities closer to their residences.
According to the provincial government, the program is expected to support early detection of illnesses, improve access to routine medical treatment and reduce pressure on existing hospitals.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif reiterated that providing quality healthcare to registered industrial workers and their families remained a priority of the Punjab government.
The Social Security Mobile Health Program represents a further expansion of Punjab’s healthcare delivery system, combining mobile medical services with the existing infrastructure of the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution.
The success of the initiative will depend on its implementation, the availability of qualified medical staff and medicines, and its ability to reach the targeted beneficiaries as the program expands across the province.
