RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (Nazrana Times) — Senior military chiefs from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye met in Riyadh on Friday, September 25, reaffirming their commitment to collective defense and discussing steps to turn the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement into practical military cooperation.

The meeting brought together the chiefs of defense forces and general staff of the three countries at a time of heightened security concerns in the region.

Security Situation and Threats Reviewed

During the talks, the military leaders reviewed the security situation and threats facing Saudi Arabia, including recent attacks targeting the holy city of Makkah as well as civilian and economic infrastructure.
The participants condemned the attacks and praised the Saudi Armed Forces for their vigilance and professionalism in protecting the Kingdom and its population.

Intelligence Sharing and Military Coordination

A major focus of the meeting was strengthening operational cooperation among the three armed forces.

The military chiefs discussed expanding intelligence sharing, improving military coordination and integrating defense capabilities. The measures are intended to strengthen deterrence and the collective-defense framework established under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement.

Turning Defense Pact Into Practical Cooperation

The participants highlighted the longstanding relations and mutual trust among Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, saying the Riyadh talks reflected the growing institutional defense partnership among the three countries.

They also expressed their determination to translate commitments under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement into effective military cooperation.

The agreement, signed in Makkah on August 7, establishes a collective-defense framework under which an external armed attack against any one of the three signatories is considered an attack against all.

Pakistan has previously described the agreement as defensive in nature and consistent with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, while stressing that it is not directed against any particular country.

Commitment to Saudi Security and Sovereignty

Concluding the meeting, the military chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to collective defense and underscored their countries’ determination to defend Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Riyadh meeting follows consultations among the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye in New York, where they discussed implementation of the defense agreement and preparations for urgent military-level talks.
