Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called on the international community to make dialogue, diplomacy, justice and respect for sovereignty the foundation of a peaceful world.
In his message marking World Peace Day, Bilawal said conflicts in different parts of the world had demonstrated the limitations of military confrontation in resolving political disputes. He urged the international community to strengthen diplomatic mechanisms and pursue negotiations rather than war.
Referring to the recent conflict involving the United States and Iran and Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement, Bilawal said Pakistan had demonstrated its support for peace by facilitating dialogue and encouraging the parties to seek a negotiated settlement.He said the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran had underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing conflict. Bilawal said Pakistan, having experienced the effects of war, terrorism and regional instability, understood the human and economic costs of conflict. He said the country’s diplomatic engagement reflected its stated support for peaceful dispute resolution.
The PPP chairman reiterated his call for “permanent peace in South Asia,” saying outstanding regional disputes, including Kashmir, water-related issues and terrorism, should be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy rather than military confrontation.He also expressed concern over civilian suffering in the Middle East and called for an end to violence, protection of civilians and meaningful international efforts towards a just and lasting peace.
Bilawal said respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, human rights and peoples’ right to self-determination should be upheld universally, adding that peace could not be achieved through selective application of international principles.
“On World Peace Day, we must remind ourselves that peace is not simply the absence of war. It requires justice, dialogue, equality and respect for human dignity. The international community must choose diplomacy over confrontation and cooperation over division,” he said.
Bilawal added that the PPP, following the legacy of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, would continue to support democratic values, peaceful coexistence and diplomatic approaches to international conflicts.
He urged world leaders to work collectively towards a world where disputes are resolved through negotiations rather than on the battlefield.
