LAHORE, Sept 15 (Nazrana Times): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi continued PTI’s street campaign in Lahore on Tuesday, meeting party workers and their families and travelling through several parts of the city alongside supporters.

Afridi said the campaign was aimed at mobilising PTI supporters across Punjab ahead of the party’s planned protest in Islamabad on September 27. Among the party’s key demands is the release of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan.

Speaking to the media, the KP chief minister accused Punjab police of obstructing his convoy, detaining PTI workers and restricting the movement of party supporters.

Afridi also alleged that police had forcibly taken him away in a prison van on Monday before later leaving him on a Lahore road without security.

Punjab authorities rejected his account, maintaining that Afridi had voluntarily entered the police vehicle while demanding the release of detained PTI workers.

During his Lahore campaign, Afridi visited the families of several PTI figures, including former Punjab Assembly member Mian Akram Usman and former Azad Jammu and Kashmir lawmaker Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan.

His convoy also travelled through Ferozepur Road, Ichhra, Mall Road and Hall Road, where groups of PTI supporters gathered to welcome him.

Tensions briefly escalated during the campaign when a citizen shouted slogans against Afridi and became involved in a verbal exchange with PTI workers. The situation was subsequently brought under control.

Afridi also criticised police action against protesters and raised the death of PTI worker Ishtiaq Ahmed, who died after suffering severe burns. PTI has linked his death to police action, while Punjab authorities have disputed that account and described the incident as accidental.

The KP chief minister warned that if the government did not change its approach, it could face what he described as a “strong reaction” in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the provincial assembly session.

Punjab authorities have imposed restrictions on public gatherings, while the provincial government has accused Afridi of using his position as chief minister to conduct political activities in Lahore.

Afridi’s Lahore campaign forms part of PTI’s broader effort to mobilise supporters in Punjab and build momentum ahead of its planned September 27 protest in Islamabad.
