Islamabad, April 2 (Nazrana Times):
Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has stressed the urgent need for national unity, cohesion, and political stability in light of the prevailing war-like situation in the region. He said that the country’s elite must now make sacrifices, while federal and provincial governments should halt non-essential projects to protect the common man.
Addressing a high-level meeting, he highlighted the economic challenges caused by the ongoing conflict and called for austerity measures to pool resources. He emphasized safeguarding the agricultural sector and public goods transport to minimize the impact of inflation on ordinary citizens. He revealed that the federal government has already borne a financial burden of Rs. 129 billion.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir, federal ministers, chief ministers of all provinces, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The Prime Minister stated that Pakistan is making all-out efforts for a ceasefire and expressed hope that peace will soon be restored in the region. He noted that diplomatic efforts are ongoing, including engagements with countries like China.
He said that due to the conflict, Pakistan’s economy is facing serious pressure despite recent stabilization. He shared that petroleum prices had to be increased significantly, placing a burden on farmers and laborers. However, steps such as a 50% reduction in fuel consumption, suspension of cabinet salaries for two months, and reduced vehicle usage have been implemented.
He appreciated the cooperation of political leadership, including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and provincial governments, calling it a strong example of national unity.
The Prime Minister emphasized that protecting the poor and vulnerable segments must remain the top priority. He urged that savings from halted projects should be redirected toward public welfare. He also highlighted the importance of supporting farmers during wheat harvesting and ensuring fuel availability for agriculture and transport sectors.
He concluded that economic stability is only possible through political stability and collective national effort.
