Congress MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, on Saturday made a strong and serious appeal to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, urging him to take immediate cognizance of what he described as a betrayal of faith, trust, and justice by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership in Punjab.
Khaira urged the Akal Takht to summon Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, stating that after assuming office, Sandhwan had taken an oath before Sri Guru Granth Sahib, assuring the public that justice would be delivered in sacrilege cases and the Behbal Kalan police firing within one and a half months. However, more than three years have passed and neither justice has been delivered nor has the Speaker fulfilled his solemn oath.
Calling it equivalent to taking a false oath before Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Khaira termed the matter a serious religious issue that warrants inquiry by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
The Congress leader also demanded accountability from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for what he described as continued silence and unexplained delay in the sacrilege and Behbal Kalan cases. He pointed out that Dera Sacha Sauda follower Pradeep Kler had clearly confessed in court that the sacrilege incidents were carried out on the directions of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
“Despite this court confession, the AAP government has not even once dared to summon Ram Rahim for questioning. This deliberate delay raises serious questions about the Mann government’s intent, honesty, and moral credibility,” Khaira said.
Khaira further challenged AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal to clarify his pre-poll promises made ahead of the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. He recalled that Kejriwal had guaranteed justice in sacrilege cases within 24 hours, adding that years later, the promise remains unfulfilled.
He also sought answers regarding the 2017 Maur bomb blast, stating that families of the victims were repeatedly assured justice by AAP leaders, but no concrete outcome has been delivered so far.
Warning that the issue has become even more serious in light of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s statements and actions, which Khaira said appeared to challenge the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, he appealed to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Sikh religious institutions to break their silence.
In conclusion, Khaira asserted that Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the supreme authority of the Sikh Panth and that any leader who takes a false oath before the Guru or exploits Sikh sentiments for political gain must be held accountable. “The Sikh community deserves truth, justice, and moral clarity—not deception and delay,” he said.
