Qatar’s Royal Climbs Pakistan’s Deadly Peak

ISLAMABAD: Nazrana Times Beuro

Sheikha Asma Al Thani, a member of Qatar’s royal family and a prominent mountaineer, has become the first Qatari woman to successfully summit Nanga Parbat, one of the world’s most dangerous mountains, located in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region.

Standing at 8,126 metres, Nanga Parbat is known as the “Killer Mountain” due to its deadly record and extreme climbing challenges. Despite unpredictable weather, sheer cliffs, and snowstorms, Sheikha Asma reached the summit, unfurling Qatar’s national flag atop the world’s ninth-highest peak.

Sheikha Asma, the Director of Marketing and Communications at the Qatar Olympic Committee and an advocate for women in sports, is pursuing her ambition to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks. This successful ascent marks her ninth in that quest.

Her achievement has been hailed globally as a milestone for Arab women in extreme sports. With each summit, Sheikha Asma is not only pushing physical limits but also reshaping perceptions about women from the Gulf region in the field of high-altitude mountaineering.

The mountaineering community and adventure sports enthusiasts have lauded her courage, resilience, and dedication to breaking barriers.
