Restoration work has commenced on the historic Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha in Khushab following direct directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, officials confirmed. The initiative marks a renewed commitment by the Punjab Government to preserve Sikh religious heritage in Pakistan.
The gurdwara holds immense historical and spiritual significance for the Sikh community, dating back to the early Sikh era. For generations, it has served as a vital religious and communal centre, symbolising the centuries-old Sikh presence in the Punjab region and the area’s shared cultural legacy.
The restoration project is being funded by the Punjab Government through the Ministry for Minority Affairs under the leadership of Provincial Minister Ramesh Singh Arora. It forms part of broader government efforts to protect and restore places of worship belonging to religious minorities.
The Pradhan of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) told Nazrana Times that the restoration was initiated on the chief minister’s special instructions. He emphasized that the work is being carried out with strict attention to preserving the gurdwara’s original architectural design and religious sanctity.
Members of the Sikh community have welcomed the development and expressed gratitude to the Punjab Government, highlighting their deep historical, religious, and emotional ties with Pakistan. They described the restoration as a meaningful step toward promoting interfaith harmony and safeguarding shared heritage.
The project is also being seen as part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to conserve its diverse religious and cultural landmarks.
