Akal Takht Calls Sikh Lawmakers to Explain Punjab’s 2026 Satkar Act Amendment

Regarding “The Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026”, which was passed by the Punjab Government in April 2026 without consultation or consent from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), and the Guru Khalsa Panth, official letters have been issued as per the direction of Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, to all Sikh members of the Punjab Legislative Assembly and Sikh Cabinet Ministers of the state government, asking them to reach the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on June 29, 2026.
Giving information regarding this matter, the in-charge of the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Bagicha Singh, stated that official letters from the Secretariat, had already been sent to the Sikh MLAs and Cabinet Ministers on their email addresses and on their WhatsApp mobile numbers recorded on the official website of the Punjab Legislative Assembly (www.punjabassembly.gov.in) on June 17 and 18, 2026. A letter was also sent to the Speaker of the Assembly, Kultar Singh, on June 23, 2026.
He further stated that officials of the Secretariat have also contacted all MLAs and ministers through phone calls on their contact numbers to inform them that official letters had been sent to them.
Bagicha Singh said that all Sikh MLAs and Cabinet Ministers have been called to the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib in Sri Amritsar at 11:00 am on June 29, 2026 to deliberate on and hear their views regarding the matter related to the legal amendment.
In addition, letters have also been sent to non-Sikh Cabinet Ministers, asking them to submit views in writing on the matter before 29 June.
