Punjab Energy Minister directs strict compliance with electrical safety regulations

Provincial Energy Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar chaired a meeting with licensed electrical contractors to review safety and quality standards for electrical installations, the licensing system and compliance with electrical safety regulations.
The meeting discussed safety protocols for the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, measures to prevent electrical accidents, and improvements to the licensing mechanism.
Addressing the meeting, Khokhar said the Punjab chief minister’s zero-tolerance policy on electrical safety would be implemented. He directed that safety regulations be strictly followed at public and private electrical installations, with no compromise on required safety standards.

The minister called for strengthening regular inspection and testing of electrical installations to ensure that potential hazards are identified and addressed in a timely manner. He also stressed that authorized and licensed contractors should be engaged for electrical installation and repair work.
Khokhar said protecting citizens’ lives and property was a priority for the Punjab government. He emphasized the importance of stronger safety measures to reduce electrical accidents and said the government was taking steps to improve electrical systems, promote safety standards and encourage responsible working practices.
He further said licensed electrical contractors have an important role in the installation, maintenance and improvement of electrical systems. He called for a licensing mechanism that is transparent, efficient and accessible.
The minister announced that the license renewal process for electrical contractors would be made more transparent and easier, with the aim of reducing unnecessary difficulties for qualified contractors.
He directed Energy Department officials to introduce modern procedures in licensing and inspection, improve record management and ensure continuous monitoring of safety standards at electrical installations.
Secretary Energy Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti, senior Energy Department officials and representatives of licensed electrical contractors attended the meeting.
