Sri Amritsar, July 3:
In a historic and heartwarming event, six-year-old Teghbir Singh was today honoured at the sacred Sri Akal Takht Sahib for his recent feat of scaling Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in both Russia and Europe, on June 28, 2025.
In recognition of his remarkable accomplishment, Officiating Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj presented the young mountaineer with a Siropa (robe of honour) and a Sri Sahib (ceremonial sword). Also present was Baba Tek Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, to bless and encourage the child.
Teghbir’s achievement adds to an already extraordinary list of mountaineering records. In April 2024, at just five years old, he became the youngest child to reach the Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Just a few months later, in August 2024, he made headlines again by becoming the youngest Indian and Asian child to scale Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak.
Speaking at the event, Jathedar Gargajj lauded Teghbir Singh as a true source of inspiration for children around the world. “His feats at such a young age are not only exceptional but also reflect the spirit of Chardi Kala and devotion rooted in his Sikh upbringing,” he stated. The Jathedar also offered his blessings for Teghbir’s continued success and encouraged his family to nurture his potential.
To honour their support and dedication, Teghbir’s family—including his father Sukhinder Deep Singh, mother Dr. Manpreet Kaur, sister Pavitjot Kaur, maternal grandfather Gurcharan Singh, paternal grandmother Narinderjit Kaur, and great-grandmother Bibi Balwinder Kaur—were also presented with Siropao at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Present on the occasion were Bagicha Singh, in-charge of the Secretariat at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and Assistant In-Charge Jasvir Singh Longowal.
Teghbir Singh’s story is not only a matter of immense pride for his family but a beacon of courage, resilience, and spiritual strength for the entire Sikh community.
