Afghanistan Assures Pakistan Its Soil Will Not Be Used Against It

Kabul | Nazrana Times Report | August 21, 2025

Afghanistan has assured Pakistan that its territory will not be allowed to be used against Pakistan or any other country.

The assurance was given during a meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 6th China–Pakistan–Afghanistan Foreign Ministers’ Trilateral Dialogue.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the talks covered a wide range of issues, including bilateral relations, trade, transit, counterterrorism, and regional connectivity. Both sides expressed satisfaction over recent positive developments in relations, particularly the decision to upgrade diplomatic representation from chargé d’affaires to ambassadors.

The two foreign ministers also reviewed progress made since earlier meetings in Kabul and Beijing, noting that most of the agreed decisions have either been implemented or are close to completion. These steps, they observed, have especially strengthened trade and transit ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

While appreciating the progress, Ishaq Dar stressed the need for more concrete steps in counterterrorism. Referring to recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan, he urged Afghanistan to take effective action against groups operating from its soil, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) Majeed Brigade.

In response, Amir Khan Muttaqi reaffirmed that Afghanistan would not allow any terrorist group to use its territory against Pakistan or any other nation.

The trilateral dialogue also focused on political, economic, and security cooperation. The three countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen joint efforts against terrorism and expand cooperation in trade, transit, health, education, culture, and counter-narcotics.

Significantly, all three sides also agreed to extend the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan, a move seen as a major step toward enhancing regional connectivity and economic integration.
