Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi returned to Islamabad on Sunday evening for a short stopover after holding talks in Muscat, Oman, diplomatic sources confirmed.
The Iranian top diplomat, who had earlier concluded high-level meetings with Pakistani civilian and military leadership on Saturday, departed for Muscat but made a quick return to the Pakistani capital before proceeding to Moscow.
According to sources, Araghchi’s private plane Meraj took off from Tehran and is scheduled to land at Nur Khan Air Base. Pakistan had earlier provided logistical support, including aviation assistance, for the Iranian Foreign Minister’s regional travels.
During his initial visit to Islamabad on April 24-25, Araghchi held crucial bilateral talks with:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar
He reportedly shared Iran’s “workable framework” and positions for permanently ending the ongoing conflict with the United States, while appreciating Pakistan’s “brotherly efforts” and “good offices” in mediating for regional peace. Araghchi described the earlier discussions as “very fruitful.”
The brief stopover in Islamabad is expected to include further consultations with Pakistani leaders to update them on his engagements in Muscat and refine proposals ahead of his visit to Russia. The visit comes as diplomatic activities intensify to revive stalled ceasefire negotiations between Tehran and Washington, with Pakistan playing a central mediating role.
Iran has maintained that it will not negotiate under pressure or blockade conditions, while emphasizing its red lines for any potential agreement.
The situation remains fluid as regional players, including Oman and Russia, continue to engage in back-channel diplomacy. A planned visit by US envoys to Pakistan was reportedly canceled, adding another layer of uncertainty to the peace process.
Nazrana Times will continue to monitor developments closely.
